12/12/11...So far; The instructions are fine, for me, written funny, but funny ha ha, they are understandable. The unit looks nice, smallish I would say. I hope It is powerful, my gate is weighing in at about 1200Lb, this unit is rated much higher. A friend who welds and works on gates occasionally said that the opener should rate double your gate weight, so I should be OK.
The base is not so great; bad welds, rusting badly where the Chinese Galvanizing did not take. The base will need to be cleaned and painted, preferably with Marine grade paint, I painted mine and I'll bet this junk metal rusts underneath it (I can almost hear it rusting). I paint galvanized metal anyway for a better look, so, big deal... But in the back of my mind, there is a plan,for a new, better base.
I will update when this thing is actually in operation.....
12/30/11; IT WORKS! My 30 foot,6 inch(long),wood(7'5" tall) and schedule 40 pipe(65"tall), cantilever gate, is not too much for this unit, and the motor does not get any kind of warm. It is slow, 22 secs or so to open(20 foot opening). I had went ahead and ordered the external receiver to extend the range of the key fob remotes. I placed the external recever, down my fence line 40 feet or so, and stuck the antenna wire through the fence, it has great range, the gate is almost half way open when I get to it.
So, "Far Out Man", it works fine, does just what it is supposed to, at a fraction of the cost of other units. (Lockmaster should pay me for this review, Ha Ha) If all is well in a few months, I will up to 5 stars.
That only leaves---The base;
I put heavy rubber gasket material under the base, so as to not scratch it on the concrete pad, the pad itself is sloped all around to help water drain off, I put OSI Quad caulk (black) where the bolts come through the base filling up the holes, and put some caulk where the bolts that hold on the chain guide come through. That's it for now. OH, I almost forgot. If you require the chain extension, get one made by Lockmaster, others (cheaper) have link pin diameter issues that take TIME to rectify.
