KOHLER K-6672-NA Adjustable Trap Review

Good, sturdy cast iron trap that doubles as a stand for Kohler's porcelain utility sinks.

I was hoping to save a few bucks and use American Standard's version instead, but the product description and photos had me doubting that trap, designed for a cast iron sink, could handle the thicker Kohler vitreous china construction. And oddly enough, this Kohler unit looks a little nicer (???).

Missing from any of the product literature is that the trap is connected to the stand by a threaded section of pipe, which provides some height adjustability. Alternately, the provided short length of pipe can be easily replaced with another a few inches longer, to get even more height. So when reading the product tear sheet, consider the center-of-drain height 10" dimension to be an average, with the minimum just shy of 9.5".

The included threaded pipe is 1.5 inch x 1-5/8, straight threads (non-tapered). I spotted in a galvanized steel pipe, 1.5 inches x 3 (tapered pipe thread) and got the 11" trap height I desired.

Also, the 2" threaded connection coming out the back can be addressed with not only a matching section of threaded cast iron, but also a copper or ABS adapter. I opted for copper for a couple of reasons. My one recommendation when completing this connection is to sweat the copper (or brass) adapter to pipe **first**, before threading it into this trap. That'll keep from overheating the thread sealant, hopefully preventing drips down the road.

Anyhow, good solid unit, and all put together makes for a sturdy and business-ready utility sink.
