Honeywell Ademco TUXW Tuxedo Touch Controller, White (6280i) Review

So my front door is basically all glass. My wife doesn't like to answer it when she is home alone and doesn't know who is at the door. The only problem is in order for her to see who's at the door they can see her. I solved this by installing a nice Sony low profile dome camera above the door but then the problem was that she had to log on the computer to check each time she wanted to see. This was slow and time consuming so I did some research and came up with this keypad. It had the built in ability to show IP based security cameras that support RTSP on the screen. I have a Vista 20p security system and this was compatible so it was a win/win.

I read reviews around the internet and I saw the negative reviews on here about the weather not working... then I also researched and found there was an update available to correct it. So, I bought two of the keypads. One for our den and one for our master bedroom. The firmware upgrade corrected the weather and once I got the camera setup correctly the keypad works great for quickly viewing the camera.

All in all I have had zero problems with the keypad. I don't rely on it for my daily weather... that's what I use my iPhone for... so I can't really say anything other than it does display the weather for my zip code and every time I've looked at the screen it appeared to be correct.

When I hooked it up the only thing I had to do was unscrew the wires from my 6160 keypad and screw them into this.. and also plug in an Ethernet cable. There was no special programming required and I would say the entire install only took about 20 minutes...

The only negative thing I have experienced with this keypad though has been that it will not chime when the door's open. If I log into the "security menu" then it will chime.. but as soon as I log out or it times out after a minute or so then it stops chiming. All the regular keypads still chime but not these unless your logged into the security keypad menu area.... It may just be that I need to change a setting but I have yet to look into it.

Anyway, I have had the units installed since January 2013. If they quit/break/etc. I will come back and update this review...
