Product Description

The new LT- and LTX-class cordless range are masters of their trade. There are many reasons for this: They are high-performance machines and extraordinarily light and compact. The new gear concept with its innovative torque clutch makes a wider range of applications possible, as the adjustable torque range has been virtually doubled. Thanks to our new motor and battery concept we have been able to make the machines more compact and even more powerful. We have also managed to protect your investment and increase service life through our new electronic single cell protection (ESCP) system which protects the battery pack and the machine from overloading. Our tried-and-tested AIR COOLED charging technology means the battery packs are, as usual, charged gently and quickly. Born through design to give you tools you can trust. For added piece of mind we now provide a three-year warranty on all machines, batteries, chucks and chargers.

Metabo SB18 LTX 602147520 18-Volt Li-Ion Hammer Drill/Driver Review

First off i should say that in my line of work, in-home delivery and setup of furniture, a drill this good and expensive is overkill. I have purchased a couple other cheap lower volt drills which I will be using more extensively. A note on that would be that its hard to find a cheaper drill with LED light. Back to this review, this unit has a light. With its excellent soft trigger you can actually, with practice, bring the light ON without engaging the drill to move. I've read several critical reviews of other drill/drivers being unable to do this. As further describing the trigger there is a real feel of control and gentle increase of speed, especially in 2nd gear, drilling mode. The quality feel of this drill and balance as i hold it is incredible. I will admit to never holding or using a Hilti which seem to be a measuring stick for quality, but my research of that brand has found the impacts have LED lighting but the drill/drivers do not. For me, paying high end dollars for a drill would require LED lighting on any unit. Did I mention the awesome light on this Metabo? And it comes on without the drill turning. I will admit being very apprehensive about purchasing Metabo products as it is difficult to find many reviews or comments from other purchasers. This alone is the reason i'm taking the time to complete this review, as i have really valued and respected others' opinions on their experiences. The few other reviews on Metabo i found seemed to be hot and cold. The suspect Customer Service comments are a concern, but it seems Metabo is working hard to rectify this as I have found new links lately proclaiming their commitment. I actually did not send in my warranty info 3 months ago when purchase was made. I now regret that but have had no problems at all. I actually purchased my drill thru online bidding in the 4 pc. kit that also includes a circular saw, recip saw, pretty good light, charger and 2 two Amp hour lithium batteries. Also included was an awesome soft case big enough to hold all of it plus enough pockets for anything else you might take along. Inside of case has velcro hold-in-place straps for each item, outside of case outlined with high quality zippered compartments. Case also has wheels and tow strap for ease of transport if you choose to load it down. So far i've found it too nice for this instead using it to store the stuff not in use. Sorry bout all the details on the soft case but it is incredible. I purchased the whole thing for less than the drill, 2 batts and charger are listed for anywhere i've seen online. The saws in kit are of highest quality and work well. Circular saw had blade included, recip saw none. They can be picked up anywhere. Back to the drill, I have read reviews, one a Metabo drill/driver, where the writer explains not wanting the extra weight of the hammerdrill or saying they haven't used a hammerdrill/driver that can get the job done. I do not drill in concrete often but i put my 3/8ths bit in one day to give it a go. After maybe 10 holes right down to the chuck i stopped cuz the bit was smoking! This drill made those 10 holes in 45-60 seconds and i never heard the drill sound under any load pressure. I've purchased hammerdrill bits for next time. My trial run leads me to believe this drill has plenty power to drill any hole with any bit it will hold especially if its the right bit for the job. The hammerdrill switch is on top out of the way and impossible to switch to by accident. The forward/ reverse switch is right above the trigger, accessible from either side, perfect, as i use each hand as needed. The speed selector is on both sides, also well placed. The included side handle is first rate quality, removeable and able to be mounted on either side, at any position. The chuck is excellent, continuing to click as you tighten it down where you want it, tighter for drill bits than hex bits. The chuck and housing both are all metal, quite a feat for a hammerdrill with a 2 amp hour battery and still only weighing 4.6 lbs. I'll deal with the extra few ounces of weight to have the hammerdrill option. The batteries are working great, each being recharged several times now and completing several days work before needing recharging. The charger holds one battery and takes about 45 minutes to recharge, the fan running quietly until charging complete. Then it shuts off and keeps battery in standby mode. I usually run a battery all the way down, recharge it, take it off the charger until i use it, usually within a week, during which i'm using the other battery. I unplug the charger when not in use and never leave a battery on charger that is unplugged. Have read other reviews where people recharge before battery discharged fully. Say battery life is better? I understand these lithiums have no memory so should it matter? The last thing I'll say I've read in other reviews is many people comment or question where a certain drill is made. As far as i know all the major brand names are made in China. ALL batteries are made there as far as i know. The Metabo name products are made in Germany. Perhaps the Festool drills and maybe the Hilti line are also made elsewhere. I'm extremely satisfied with my Metabo SB18LTX 18Volt Hammerdrill, plan to use it less daily in my work to save it and the batteries for work its more likely to not be tossed about in. I'm not German and have never spoke to anyone from the company. I do await a 12 Volt Metabo Plus i just got over the weekend at a great price online and perhaps in a couple months time will be inclined to review it. Hope this helps someone and happy shopping!
