Product Description
The DE-500 is a high-performance handheld LCR meter that is full-featured yet cost effective. It rivals the capabilities and options of many of its bench counterparts. This handheld LCR meter can transfer data to a PC via a standard, fully isolated, optical IR-USB interface. It also features a Sorting mode, allowing users to quickly sort components. The DE-5000 handheld LCR Meter has automatic impedance selection. This allows the user to measure the L/C/R components in Auto LCR mode without having to select the type of measurement. To accommodate various test requirements, the DE-5000 handheld LCR Meter offers selectable test frequencies: 100 Hz / 120 Hz / 1 kHz / 10 kHz / 100 kHz. The LCR Meter is powered by a standard 9V battery. For additional convenience, it may also use an optional ac adapter (DE-5000-AC). To transfer data to a PC, the LCR Meter comes with a built-in IR interface. IET offers an optional Data Transfer Kit (DE-5000-DTK). This kit includes: IR-USB interface adapter, a USB cable, and a CD with software for the PC. Click Here to download the software associated with the USB Data Kit and Product Manual. I own the DE-5000 and I have used several other LCR meters including the Agilent U1733C which cost $100 more than the DE-5000.The DE-5000 is a superbly made meter, I don't know what the other poster is talking about when he says "Plasticy"! This meter is made of plastic just like every other handheld meter on the Planet! They are all made of plastic so that you don't get electrocuted if it comes in contact with high voltage. The DE-5000 has some of the toughest and most durable plastic I have seen on a Meter, it's even more solid than my Fluke 87V meter.
As for the second statement of "don't buy from this Seller it's Plasticy", the Seller is IET aka GenRad. They are the company that makes the meter and they are one of the Top Industrial high end equipment companies on the Planet.
As for the DE-5000 it is the kind of product you would expect from GenRad, its built tough as nails and is very accurate and reliable.
The Accuracy of the DE-5000 in tests I ran shows it surpasses the Agilent U1733C and that means it will surely be better than a BK precision 879 or Mastech MS5308 etc.
What you get with the DE-5000 is a 100Khz LCR meter with .03% accuracy +/- various counts on different ranges and that is a lot more precise than any other handheld on the market. The proof of this is in the testing and I can confirm that it takes more precise measurements with better repeatability and stability in all of the modes versus Agilent's top handheld model and on you tube and the web you can find several other users that can confirm this.
The DE-5000 unlike the other meters has 4 wire Kelvin probes so it can measure resistances very accurately down to the milli Ohm.
I suggest you look up "eevblog DE-5000" to see a review of how well this meter is constructed and you can also find several videos comparing it's accuracy against multi thousand dollar bench LCR meters.
One final thing to keep in mind is that while the meter comes in several option packages you don't have to worry, the additional items are relatively cheap. The tweezer probes are around $30 the IR to USB interface is also $30 and the case if you want it is also fairly cheap. Overall you cant go wrong buying this meter it's probably the best handheld LCR meter on the market and joins my bench in the trust worthy category along with my Fluke 87V, my HP Linear power supplies and my HP Spectrum analyzer.
