Milwaukee 1680-20 Super Hawg 13 Amp 1/2-Inch Joist and Stud Drill Review
I purchased this drill as an addition to a long list of other Milwaukee products I already happily own. For the most part, I am satisfied with it's performance, but I can tell you for sure, it is not the Milwaukee you have known, and does not carry the same high quality standard as older products. In previous reviewers comments, it became aware to me that Milwaukee, is no longer made in the USA (of weird to me to say the Milwaukee is in china now!), but in all reality, who is surprised by this. Anyways, back to the review. To start, let me say that this drill should have ample power for any standard contractors needs. I am an electrician and was was looking for a fast(er) right angle drill for the mundane task of drilling across walls and ceiling rafters. No issues here, the drill performs well on the higher speed as well as the low. The head of the drill has a slightly shorter body, allowing for tighter corner use, which I found to be helpful in more instances than one. The weight is a bit heavy to hold for extended periods overhead, bit still very useable(it didn't bother me as much as my employees, go figure). At waist height, the drill is very comfortable to use and a breeze to make very level, straight holes. One thing I will add, when using this drill in high speed, use additional caution when using dull bits, large bits, or in areas where you expect to find internal debris(nails, screws). As with any drill, this can catch and twist up on you fairly easily and will overpower you instantly. This should come as no surprise to experienced users, but needs to be noted for less. I do not care for the rotating head, I found it unnecessary at best, and it takes away from the sturdiness of the drill. Improvements could be made to the forward reverse switch as well, a little cheesy for my taste. All in all a good product, but would love to see them manufactured in the USA again, and since I'm fairly certain that won't be happening lll eventually have to learn to accept that they just don't make em like they used too. Get used to it(I guess).
